Local Actors To Read the Twilight Zone
October 6 & 7 in Binghamton

Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone comes alive for two performances at the Binghamton High School’s brand new Black Box Theatre. A staged reading of two classic Rod Serling scripts, A STOP AT WILLOUGHBY and EYE OF THE BEHOLDER will be presented by an association between the Rod Serling Video Festival and STAR – Southern Tier Actors Read.

The first script A STOP AT WILLOUGHBY is the story of an ad agency executive tired of his miserable job and nagging wife, who starts dreaming on the train each night during his long commute home, about an old, idyllic town called Willoughby. EYE OF THE BEHOLDER centers on a young woman, Janet Tyler, who is forced to undergo experimental treatments in an attempt to make her appear "normal”. Each script has that very special Serling twist that made the series so popular to television audiences.

The readings, directed by STAR co-founders Heidi Weeks and Judy McMahon will feature many local favorite actors including Claus Evans, Tom Kremer, Bill Gorman and Bernie Sheredy. Both casts have ties to area theatres including The Cidermill Playhouse, The Chenango River Theatre, Binghamton University, Know Theatre and numerous community and educational theatre venues. All performers volunteer their time and talents and receive no compensation for their work.

“It was a perfect fit” said Lawrence Kassan, founder and director of the Rod Serling Video Festival. “I learned of Judy and Heidi’s new theatre group and thought what a great way to commemorate the October anniversary of the Twilight Zone’s initial broadcast and showcase our new Black Box Theatre at the Rod Serling School of the Arts.”

STAR recently presented a staged reading of Lillain Hellman’s THE LITTLE FOXES at the Phelps Mansion as part of their performance schedule. “We are excited to be working at Binghamton High School and look forward to future collaborations with the acting program there” said Heidi Weeks, a Binghamton High School alum.

Performances are Wednesday October 6th and Thursday October 7th at 7:30 PM. Admission is FREE but donations supporting STAR’s efforts are always welcome. A “talk back” will follow each evening with members of the Serling family and the cast. Due to the limited seating in the “intimate” Black Box Theatre reservations are required and may be made by calling the box office at 607-762-8202.
